PEORIA, Ill. -- A longtime Peoria business is squashing rumors that it will close down.

This, after Caterpillar announced Tuesday its purchase of a new building.

Big Yellow has acquired the 200 block of Main Street, which includes the Peoria Professional Building.

Managers of the nearby Kelly Seed and Hardware Company confirmed off-camera the business will not be closing or moving.

They say some customers began crying when they thought the century-old store could shut down.

Bev Schmidt, of Peoria, says she has been a Kelly Seed customer for 30 years and was relieved when she found out the store is not going anywhere.

"They're a dedicated staff," said Schmidt. "They take time when you go in and ask questions. That's why I bother to come from the Metro Centre area to downtown."

There's no word yet on the future of the businesses and offices located in the Peoria Professional Building.

However, the district manager of DHL, a postal and logistics group, has confirmed the company will extend its current lease with Caterpillar at the professional building.
