SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Now that Lisa Madigan isn't going to run for governor and will run for re-election as attorney general, Illinois Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon will run for Illinois comptroller.
Simon, an attorney, had reportedly considered a run for attorney general if Madigan tried for governor.
Now, Simon will take a shot at the comptroller's job. That's not official yet, but her campaign office said the announcement will come next week.
Earlier Simon announced she would not run for re-election to the lieutenant governor's post.
Running for comptroller could put Simon, a Democrat, in competition with Republican Judy Baar Topinka, who said in Peoria on Monday that she plans to run for re-election.
