GALESBURG, Ill. --Martin Luther King Jr. was remembered at Knox College Monday afternoon.
Classes were shortened on the college's campus to make time for the annual convocation.
Dozens of students gathered in the fine arts center to listen to guest speakers and poetry readings.
School officials said their diverse student population is a testament to Dr. King's work.
"For the college community to be able to take a moment and reflect back on Dr. King's legacy is hugely important," said Knox College Chief Communications Officer, Megan Scott. "It impacts us all everyday right here."
Perspective students and their families also has a chance to attend the event during the college's admission open house.
