WICHITA, KS -- Wichita police have put the finger on some surprising culprits.

It turns out even police departments and the evidence rooms inside are not immune to intruders.

Mice chewed into some evidence containing packages of marijuana in the property and evidence department.

This is actually not uncommon, police say. Marijuana has a very strong odor that would attract animals such as mice.

"They chewed through the packaging in the process," said Lt. Doug Nolte of the Wichita Police Dept. "There were three packages that were damaged and a small amount of marijuana was evident to have come out of the packages."

So far, the rodents haven't been caught.

Nolte added that "the mice may not be moving as fast as they normally do."
