NORFOLK, VA. -- Police deal with cases of mistaken identity all the time, but usually it doesn't involve a lion.
"911 what's your emergency?" "I'm driving down the street right before the zoo and there's a lion that ran across the street, a baby lion."
That 911 call about a loose lion got the attention of the local zoo director, but their lions were sleeping like cats do.
No, there was no loose lion but a running Labradoodle called "Charles the Monarch."
Owner Daniel Painter got the idea to shave Charlie's fur and dye some of it a darker color, because a Lion is the mascot at Old Dominion University where Painter's daughter is a student.
The goal to make the dog more popular at
ODU tailgate parties. The odd 911 call is just an unexpected benefit.
