MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ill. -- The Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office announced charges Tuesday connected to the death of Illinois State Police Trooper Kyle Deatherage.

Trooper Deatherage was killed in the line of duty when he was struck by a semi on I-55 near Litchfield in November of last year.

Johnny B. Felton Jr., 52, of Hinesville Georgia, was indicted by a Montgomery County Illinois grand jury on April 22. The grand jury indicted Mr. Felton for the class 2 felony offense of Reckless Homicide.

The indictment alleges that Felton operated a semi-tractor trailer on northbound Interstate 55 and drove wrecklessly, resulting in the death of Trooper Deatherge.

This charge is a class 2 felony that includes a sentencing range of probation up to the maximum sentence of 14 years incarceration in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Felton was also charged with a second felony count alleging that he willfully operated a commercial motor vehicle in the State of Illinois when he did not have a valid commercial driver’s license.
