PEORIA, Ill. -- Heartland Clinic has added another site to its healthcare facilities.

OSF St. Francis Medical Center's "Sisters Community Healthcare Clinic" announced Monday that it is merging with Heartland Clinic.

The partnership allows OSF medical students attending the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria to have greater access to patients.

Heartland's patient load will increase by 40-percent.

"We will move from serving about 12,000 or 13,000 people a year to over 20,000 people a year. So it's a big leap in growth for us and we're very excited about it," said Heartland Clinic Director Farrell Davies.

As a result of the merger, the clinic will hire additional staff. Heartland will now have a total of five clinics throughout the Peoria area.

The staff provide healthcare to families with little or no insurance.
