BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – We now know what caused the death of a Harbor Seal at the Miller Park Zoo.
“McGraw” died unexpectedly on November 8. A necropsy performed by veterinarians from the University of Illinois showed the death was caused by a twist in the animal’s intestinal track.
McGraw and his half-brother, Kash, were transported to Miller Park Zoo from the Orlando, Florida Sea World location in April as part of the Species Survival Plan in which Miller Park Zoo participates.
Species Survival Plans at Zoos and other facilities are designed to help build up the captive population of the animals. Kash will remain on exhibit.
