PEORIA, Ill. -- Central Illinois families got a first-hand look at some monkey business going on at the Peoria Zoo.

Dozens of people attended a special breakfast event, which showcased the zoo's spider monkeys.

Visitors learned about the species while enjoying a bite to eat.

Afterwards, they got a close look at the zoo's three spider monkeys and two lemurs.

Two of these monkeys have been at the Peoria Zoo for more than 20 years.

"They will get an experience that a lot of kids don't get to have at the zoo," said Peoria Zoo Educator Assistant, Heather Maughan. "Especially when we get to go to those behind the scenes areas that aren't usually accessible to the public. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, really, to be in that same area with those animals."
