PEORIA, Ill. -- On Friday, the latest U.S. jobs report is expected to show fewer layoffs. For Caterpillar, it's a different story.

Caterpillar is announcing that even more temporary layoffs will likely occur this year.

CAT spokesman Jim Dugan says any of the company's local 30-plus business units could face these temporary layoffs.

For example, about 20 percent of the Decatur plant employees will be forced to take a week of unpaid leave in November and December.

Last month, Big Yellow confirmed similar rolling layoffs at the East Peoria plant.

Dugan says CAT may also discontinue services with private contractors.

He says it's all due to economic certainty worldwide.
