PEORIA, Ill. -- This year, Peoria's Biggest Loser contestants can get out of the gym a little earlier than usual.

Pink Team's Neta Royse is taking advantage of the mild winter, with a little help from a friend.

"Just grab your leash and start walking," said Royse. "It keeps you fit, and it keeps your dog fit."

Whether walking outside or working out in the gym, Royse is staying on top of her Biggest Loser goal.

So far, she has shed about 20 pounds. That's more than halfway to her target loss.

"I'm a fast food junkie," said Royse. "I think I lived at some of the fast food places, just grabbing whatever and going, and I think that's how I piled on the weight really fast."

The competition is also teaching Royse to diet right, along with her workouts.

"Just learning how to eat balanced meals with fruits, proteins, and you know," said Royse, "just the healthy carbs."

Sounds a lot like holistic dog food. That's what Royse now feeds her dogs.

Both of her former dogs died from eating packaged food with byproducts and fillers.

Behind the scenes of NBC's Biggest Loser, host Alison Sweeney tells us she keeps herself healthy by doing the same for her pet.

"If you start making changes in the right direction, looking at your own snacking habits, and looking at how much are you overeating or how much are you not exercising," said Sweeney. "I mean, it really is the same for pets as it is for people, and you're the one in control."

Sweeney says feeding a 1 ounce piece of cheese to a 20 pound dog is like eating 1 and a half burgers yourself.

And a glass of milk for a 10 pound cat is equal to 3 burgers.

Sweeney encourages all Peoria contestants to chew on her words of advice to get through the next, and final, four weeks of training.

"Peoria, go out there and get it done!" said Sweeney. "Congratulations, and good luck with the Biggest Loser."
