NORMAL, Ill.-- Normal's Uptown Station celebrated National Train Day Saturday.
Uptown station was one of many across the nation celebrating for the second consecutive year.
The theme of this year's event is "Trains Matter".
People were able to participate in children related activities, a model railroad, and Amtrak giveaways.
"A way for children and adults and their parents to work together to understand what trains mean to the community and safety also" said Sally Heffernan, the Event Organizer.
"Not only are they big train fans but they were also hoping to get to see and ride a train today. So i don't think we are going to be doing that today, but kids and trains, firetrucks, anything like that they are all in" said Kyle Bounds a Bloomington father.
Normal city leaders said the event was a good place to showcase the station, which will be upgraded to high-speed in 2017.
