WEST PEORIA, Ill. -- A New Year's Eve house fire in West Peoria turned deadly, say authorties.
Firefighters were called to the home at 2016 West Heading shortly before 9:30 Monday night. Witnesses say the house was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.
Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says 95-year-old Betty Kemp, the resident of the address, was discovered dead in her dining room.
She was pronounced dead at 1:35 a.m. at the home. However, due to extensive burns, Ingersoll says medical records will need to be reviewed to confirm her identity.
The coroner also says Kemp's grandson lived with her at the residence but was not home at the time of the incident.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
At least six fire departments assisted West Peoria in battling the blaze.
The house is considered a complete loss.
