ILLINOIS -- A new federal grant will help low-income homeowners afford critical repairs.
The 6.1 million dollars in federal funds will be distributed through the Illinois Housing Development Authority.
Repairs may include roofing, siding, plumbing, and heating system upgrades.
Locally 16 homeowners will be assisted.
The application process does not begin until May, but you can check your eligibility now.
To be eligible your household income must be at 80 percent or below the area median income.
Homeowners must also continue to occupy the property as their principal residence.
