PEORIA, Ill. -- The heart of Illinois may not have any oceans, but that didn't stop a partnership from forming between a local business and a shark enthusiast.

On Tuesday, television host and shark expert, Chris Fischer visited central Illinois to announce a special partnership between his research program and Caterpillar.

Fischer is best known for doing shark research by capturing, and tagging live sharks.

And thanks to a grant from Caterpillar, Fischer will be able to continue to doing that research for the next three years.

Fischer said its important that funding be put into ocean research now.

"I think one of the things that was really interesting to Bret and I when we started working on this project was how little we really know about the ocean's giants. It is a massive area of learning that needs to be overcome. We have to figure out what's going on in the oceans to make sure it has a bright future for the planet,' said shark researcher Chris Fischer.

If you would like to meet Fischer in person, he will be hosting a question and answers presentation at the Peoria Riverfront Museum this Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
