MORTON, Ill. -- A western Illinois man remains in serious condition after rear-ending a semi on Interstate 74 this weekend.

Illinois State Police said Jon Cross, 68, of Lynn Center, Ill., was traveling westbound on I-74 just after 6 p.m. Saturday.

Police said Cross was entering the construction zone near Morton when he failed to slow down for the upcoming traffic and crashed into the back of a semi.

Cross was driving a Prius and had to be removed from the car by the Morton Fire Department.

He was life-flighted to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center where he remains in serious condition.

Cross has been cited for failure to reduce speed.

The driver of the semi was uninjured.

Remember to slow down and use extreme caution while driving through all work zones.
