PEKIN, Ill. -- Pekin officials announced Monday that a section of the town is to be evacuated due to rising floodwaters.

A section of the northwest side of town is being given the notice to evacuate due to impending flooding.

The evacuation will remain in effect until the water recedes in this area. The American Red Cross has a shelter set up at the ICC Cougar Plex.

In addition, the City of Pekin Sewage Treatment Plant was overcome by flood waters Monday morning due to river levels. The main plant systems are continuing to function treating the sewage.
