PEKIN, Ill. -- We are just days away from the 25th annual Duck race to benefit the Center for Prevention of Abuse and one board member has a rather unique challenge and incentive for residents to purchase a duck.

Joe Ricigliano works at Pekin Insurance and is trying to reach his goal of 2,000 ducks for his team.

He is only a little more than 600 ducks away.

If he reaches his goal, he will shave his head.

It is something he is not too crazy about, but he said he knows the money raised goes to a vital organization in the Tri-County area.

"It takes a woman in an abusive situation seven times to actually leave and it's very difficult and challenging step and I figured if I can bring awareness to the assistance that the center provides individuals in those types of situations, my hair will grow back," said Ricigliano.

There is still time to buy your duck for the race.

The Duck Race is Saturday, August 24 at the Peoria Riverfront.

Festivities begin at noon and the ducks race at 2 p.m. Each duck costs just $5 and you could win the grand prize of $5,000 cash.
