Peoria Park Board to discuss possible sale of Peoria Stadium

June 26, 2013 Updated Jun 26, 2013 at 4:18 PM CDT

PEORIA, Ill. -- The Peoria District 150 school board and city council have publicly discussed the sale of the Peoria Stadium site.

Tonight for the first time the other major entity involved in a possible sale, the Peoria Park Board, will discuss the matter.

The park board actually had to move its meeting to the Gateway Building due to an expected large community showing.

News broke in May that negotiations were taking place between Walmart lawyers and District 150 to sell all, or part of, the land that the stadium sits on to build a new super center.

For that to happen, the park board which holds a long-standing lease would have to agree to move their ball diamonds or break the lease.

Tonight, Board members will discuss an offer from District 150 to pay the Park District more than $1.1 million to break the lease and a letter from Walmart attorneys regarding the site.

Area residents are expected to show up in large numbers to voice their concerns.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the Gateway Building in downtown Peoria.

We will bring you the latest developments from the meeting tonight at 10.
