PEORIA, Ill. -- Police officer John Couve resigned from the department on Thursday, before going into Circuit Court to plead guilty to a charge of attempted obstruction of justice.
Couve's troubles with the law began in July of last year, when he crashed a city-owned car into a power transmitted and then attempted to hide his involvement in the accident.
He was placed on leave after being indicted.
In addition to the 90-days in jail, Couve must serve a two year period of probation.
