PEORIA, Ill. -- Authorities say a fatal stabbing in Peoria early Wednesday morning was most likely a case of self-defense.

Officers responded to 5419 North Renwood at 2:15 a.m. There they found DeAndre Foote, 30, lying on the front lawn. Foote was transported to OSF St. Francis Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The coroner said Foote had been stabbed in the chest, arms and hand.

Peoria Police Captain Mike Scally says a 26 year old female was taken into custody but that she will most likely be released without charge.

"The address was known to officers who worked in that area and I do know there was a history of domestic violence calls and this is the culmination," said Scally.

Captain Scally said there were children in the home at the time of the incident.

The case has been turned over to the Peoria County State's Attorney.
