PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria Quest Charter Academy had the honor of hosting retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

Students at Quest Academy are using a program developed by Justice O'Connor.

The online learning tool is designed to help teach young children about the civil process.

After speaking to the middle school students about the importance of education, the Retired Supreme Court Justice left them with one key piece of advice.

"I just wanted to give them my one message that is important. They just need to know two things to be stars: Read fast and write well," O'Connor.

Justice O'Connor was named an Honorary Ronald Reagan Fellow by Eureka College yesterday.

Wednesday she was honored for the recognition at the Federal Courthouse.

Circuit Judge Kevin Lyons says it means a lot to have a such prominent Justice visit the area.

"Even though she has retired, she travels the country making sure that the things that are important to her are still important to Americans," Lyons said.

Justice Sandra O'Day Connor was the first woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, nominated by President Ronald Reagan.
