PEORIA, Ill. -- A Peoria homeowner said she is in shock over the damage caused by a weekend crash.
The crash happened just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
Carma Kimber, 39, was driving her minivan on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when she lost control of the vehicle.
She then drove through part of the Spring Grove subdivision, hitting a traffic sign and traveling about 50 yards down a bluff.
She eventually stopped in the back yard of Camille Coates' home.
Kimber was ticketed for driving under the influence.
Coates said she is lucky the damage was not much worse.
“Basically she came from the top of the hill, through the grassy area, through the rod iron black gate which is the neighborhood subdivision gate,” Coates said. “She somehow turned slightly and hit the top of the retaining wall, landed on the basketball court, turned again and ended up between the two homes which is a very tight squeeze.”
Coates said police were amazed that the van had not crashed right into the back of her house.
Kimber has been given notice to appear in court.
The investigation is still ongoing.
