PEORIA, Ill. -- A Peoria man is facing felony charges after placing an infant in a bathtub of hot water earlier this week.
Brandon Cooper, 19, was babysitting his girlfriend's two-year-old son, when the boy deficated in his pants.
Cooper removed the boy's clothes and put him into a bathtub with hot water.
Police believe the water burned the boy from the waist down, covering 60 percent of his body.
The child was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to the burn unit at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Cooper is charged with reckless conduct and causing great bodily harm, a class 4 felony.
He is being held at Peoria County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 13.
