Peoria man robbed at gunpoint after cashing check

PEORIA, Ill. -- A Peoria man was robbed at gunpoint after cashing a check Monday afternoon.

Police spoke to the 64-year-old victim, who told police he had just cashed a check and was walking in the 1800 block of W. Lincoln Ave. at 2:00 p.m.

The victim said he was approached by a black male who asked him for a cigarette. As he was going to give him one, a second male approached and put a gun to his head.

The victim said he gave them almost $700 in cash and the suspects fled the scene.

The first suspect was described as being shorter and heavy set, while the second was described as being taller and heavy set. No additional suspect information has been made available.
