PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria police are looking for 22-year-old Marquis Costic. His last known address is 1614 W. Butler.
Costic is wanted for a shooting incident occurring at Warren and Butler where two subjects were shot with a .223 caliber semi-automatic rifle. One of the victims, 17-year-old Treyshawn Blakely, was killed.
"It's a large amount of people, a high powered rifle, young victims," said Captain Mike Scally, Peoria Police Department.
Authorities found Blakely in the street. Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said the former Manual Academy student was shot in the head was pronounced dead in the emergency room at OSF St. Francis Medical Center at 6:30 p.m.
The weapon has not been recovered.
Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard believes the shooting is gang related.
"I believe three homes had a round penetrate the exterior wall. By God's grace there was nobody hit inside any of those three houses. A number of people were outside that were in the line of fire when the shots were fired. Two people were hit, which surprises me that we didn't have more. There's definite gang involvement in this case, and there is going to be a response from 'Don't Shoot'," said Chief Settingsgaard.
The Chief would not say which gang will now be targeted, but he did say it is one that has not been targeted before.
Costic is 5'7" tall and weighs 135 pounds. Police say his car is a blue 1990 Camaro, the license plate is N608774.
Anyone with information about this case is urged to call Peoria Police at 673-4521
Police say Costic is to be considered armed and dangerous.
