PEORIA, Ill -- The man charged in the murder of 32-year-old Kelsey Coleman made his first court appearance Monday.
25-year-old Dieuseul Brown is charged with first degree murder, armed violence and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
Prosecutors believe Brown entered 1612 Arago street shortly after midnight Friday, fired at least two shots, wounding Coleman before fleeing the scene.
Others in the home told police it was a home invasion. They told police they did not know the man but he had an eye patch and used a red handgun.
Police later located Brown who had been known to wear an eye patch and he had a red handgun and cocaine on him at the time.
Brown has been previously convicted of attempted armed robbery and attempted burglary.
His bond has been set at $2 million.
Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard said there is a drug element to this homicide, he does not believe it is gang-related.
