Police seize plane carrying $175,000 worth of marijuana

PEORIA, Ill. -- Two people have been arrested after a plane carrying marijuana was seized by police.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., authorities received information about a suspicious plane possibly traveling to Peoria International Airport.

The plane was intercepted after landing at the airport and was searched by police. Approximately 70 one pound vacuum sealed packages of suspected marijuana were found inside the plane.

Authorities estimate that the marijuana is worth $175,000.

The pilot, James Epperson, 69, and his passenger Georgette Heard, 57, were taken into custody. Epperson also had two outstanding warrants out of Cook County for Unlawful Delivery of Cocaine.

Both have been charged with Cannabis Trafficking and Possession with Intent to Deliver over 5000 Grams of Cannabis.
