GALESBURG, Ill. – Prosecutors in Knox County have rested their case in the murder trial of Kai Lefler.
Lefler, 25, of Oneida is accused of stabbing Robert Kilgore, 23, of Galesburg to death in January after witnesses say he confronted Lefler over a possible car burglary.
During testimony Thursday, forensic pathologist Dr. Amanda Youmans testified that Kilgore bled to death after suffering a significant injury to his left arm that damaged a vein and an artery.
Earlier in the day Galesburg Police Detective Travis Smith said that he found a box-cutter knife, black glove and credit card on Lefler when he was arrested.
Just before the jury recessed for the day, defense attorney’s requested a motion for a directed verdict. The judge denied that motion, saying that the state has provided sufficient evidence.
The defense will present their case on Friday.
