AURORA, Colo. -- NBC News is reporting that Colorado prosecutors will seek the death penalty against James Holmes, the man accused of killing 12 people in a movie theater last July.
Prosecutors rejected an offer from the defense for Holmes to plead guilty and spend life in prison.
“It’s my determination and my intention that in this case, for James Eagan Holmes, justice is death,” George Brauchler, district attorney for Arapahoe County said.
Holmes surrendered police soon after his July 12 rampage at a midnight showing for "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colorado.
Holmes' trial is set to begin on August 5.
