ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The arrest of Terence Doddy for two murders has prompted investigators to re-open a drowning case that is more than 20 years old.

The victim was 15-year-old Stephanie Johnston, a young woman Doddy had been dating. When she disappeared in 1993, she was reported a runaway.

Months later, her body was found in the Rock River. Johnston's family asked authorities to re-open the case after Doddy's arrest.

Chief Dominic Iasparro of the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office spoke as to why the case was reopened.

“Based on that association, the circumstances she was found in the river and the fact that this information has surfaced now at this point, we felt it appropriate to resurrect this,” said Iasparro.

Despite the reopening of the drowning case, the Winnebago County Sheriff said Doddy is not a suspect or person of interest in the death.
