PEORIA, Ill. -- The Boston bombings hit especially close to home for a Peoria Rivermen who just recently joined the team at the end of the season.
Rivermen left wing Marshall Everson is a current student at MIT and he lives just 10 minutes away from Watertown.
Everson had a friend near the finish line at the Boston Marathon injured from the explosions.
He was also home at the time of the police chase.
"We heard some explosions from our door," said Everson. "We were told most of them were controlled. From what we know, what we were told by the school there were some devices thrown out of their car during the chase and the police took care of them through controlled explosions."
Everson said his friend was released from the hospital the night of the bombings.
He plans to return to Boston to finish up school now that the hockey season is over.
