Rollover accident kills one man in Galesburg

GALESBURG, Ill. -- According to the Galesburg Police Department, Galesburg Police, Galesburg Fire Department and Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service Paramedics were dispatched to the 700 block of West Main Street at 8:37 a.m. Saturday on a report of a roll-over motor vehicle accident.

Officers arrived to find a black vehicle on its top in the front parking area of 677 West Main Street.

The driver, identified as Tyson L. Twitchel of 2050 155th Cameron, IL, 18 years, was found laying a few feet from the overturned car.

Twitchel was alone in the car at the time of the accident.

Twitchel was transported to Cottage Hospital with very severe injuries sustained in the accident. Twitchel was pronounced dead at 12:30 p.m.

Witnesses reported seeing Twitchel's vehicle eastbound on Main Street west of Henderson Street at a very high speed.

Twitchel lost control of his vehicle just west of Henderson Street while eastbound on Main Street.

Twitchel's vehicle traveled across the intersection of Main and Henderson, across the westbound lanes of West Main, across the Aldi Food's parking lot, across Walnut Avenue coming to rest in the front parking lot of 677 West Main Street.

As Twitchel's car crossed the westbound Main Street lanes, his car struck a westbound car stopped at the red light for Main Street traffic.

The occupants of the westbound car were not injured.
