PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy says there is nothing his department could have done to prevent the recent death of an inmate.

Kevin Angus, 26, was found dead inside his jail cell early morning. A note was found with his body. An autopsy showed he died of hanging.

Angus was one of the two suspects in last week's robbery of the Glasford State Bank.

The Sheriff says Angus was last checked on 45 minutes before his body was found.

"He was being checked on, everything was fine and you know sometimes there are certain things we can help and certain things we can't help and this was one of those incidents we don't have a lot of control over,” McCoy said.

The Sheriff says a guard checked on Angus and then took another prisoner to the medical center. When he returned, Angus was dead.

The Sheriff said Angus showed no signs of being a suicide risk prior to his death.
