PEORIA, Ill. -- Soccer teams from across Illinois and as far away as Missouri and Minnesota attracted thousands of people to Detweiller Park for the River City Soccer Classic.

One hundred and ten teams played about 250 games from Friday to Sunday.

Some of the players, ages six to 19-years-old, advanced as far as the semi-finals.

Organizers say hotels and restaurants were packed with enthusiastic soccer families throughout the weekend.

"We have some restaurant sponsors for some of the fields, and for the tournament itself, that have offered family specials and meal deals throughout the weekend,” says Tournament Director Boyd Roberts. “The hotels are very full. We've had, actually, a lot of people telling us they had trouble getting rooms with the tournament and also with Steamboat going on this weekend."

Roberts says the weather mostly cooperated with the 32nd annual event.

There was only a 45 minute delay of games last night due to lightning.
