PEORIA, Ill. -- Whether it's roulette or a simple game of poker, residents took a bet to help some area high school students Friday night.

Brewers distributing was transformed into a Las Vegas casino for the 4th annual Play for the Promise event.

The event gave residents a fun and exciting way of donating their money to Peoria Promise.

They could gamble for the promise and also buy raffle tickets to win items.

Peoria's mayor says it's thanks to the community Peoria Promise is still around.

"So what we're trying to do in Peoria is we place the education of our kids as our number one priority and thanks to a lot of people who understand how important education is, Peoria Promise is alive and well," said Peoria mayor Jim Ardis.

Peoria Promise has helped nearly 3-thousand students continue their education at ICC.
