PEORIA, Ill. -- Some Peoria residents say parts of their community have become a dumping ground for old tires.

A day after the “Great American Clean Up”, residents say a pile of old tires was dumped in the parking lot of the Shop Rite store on Western Avenue.

A neighborhood association member says she witnessed a vehicle with license plates saying Autotech make two trips to the parking lot of dump tires around 9 p.m. Sunday night.

Members of a south side neighborhood group reportedly called police and confronted the company.

First District Councilwoman Denise Moore said she has contacted the city manager about whether the company should be investigated.

Moore and other members of the association say such incidents hinder efforts to revitalize the neighborhood.
