SPRING BAY, Ill.-- Residents in Spring Bay have a long road ahead, cleaning up their homes and re-adjusting to life after the flood.
The waters rose quickly in Spring Bay... with homes and businesses submerged in just a couple of days.
Those closest to the river are still waiting for the water to recede, while others are now diving into the next phase.
With the help of his sons, Chris White began clearing out his mother-in-law's home Saturday morning, starting with the carpeting.
Chris White said, "We have to take the walls down and dry out the insulation and put everything back together."
The home was filled with a few inches of water which was enough to cause major damage.
White's son Tyler says they did everything possible to prepare for the flood.
Tyler said, "Moved the whole house out into trailers and up into one of our Morton buildings. We sandbagged and blocked all the doors so that mud and silt didn't get in with the water... Try and keep some of the smell out."
Chris White said, "Moved everything out of the garage but no water got in it. Oh, well... better safe than sorry."
White says his mother-in law is lucky as some of her neighbors will be dealing with a lot more wreckage.
He says they're grateful so many people were there to help her move out and put the pieces of her life back together.
Chris White said, "Oh we'll probably get her back in a month. It helps having 4 boys!"
White says Sunday, they'll be taking on the hardwood floors in the kitchen... The next step along the long road to restoration.
