Progress on the road to economic recovery is still not moving fast enough for many people.
But if you are a small business owner there are some incentives for growth under a state program.

IT 360 a Peoria information technology consulting firm provides technical support for Central Illinois businesses. When it opened four and a half years ago two employees staffed the firm. Now there are 8 the most recent one a systems engineer added under a 25-hundred dollar state tax credit.

"We've been able to hire a new employee which is really opening us up for future business and being able to provide additional support for our clients," said IT 360 Vice President Matt Machala.

The 25-hundred dollar Small Business Job Creation Tax Credit is part of Governor Pat Quinn's budget initiatives designed to stimulate the economy.

"Small businesses which are the backbone of our economy are making decisions everyday as to whether or not to hire or have to postpone that hire. So a 25-hundred dollar tax credit can be the difference," said Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Director Warren Ribley.

David Mills a local Certified Public Accountant says the tax credit was also an incentive for him to hire a book keeper.

"We did have a need, we were going to hire, I think it probably moved up that decision by at least a couple months by doing that. So it certainly was helpful," he said.

Only businesses with less than 50 employees may apply for the tax credit. Employees must work one year before companies can use the benefit.
