PEORIA, Ill. -- Eight District 150 students were injured Wednesday afternoon when their school bus driver slammed on his breaks to avoid an accident.
District 150 Spokesperson Chris Coplan said the incident happened at the intersection of N. Peoria Avenue and E. Illinois Avenue.
The bus driver was slowing down to make a left turn when a car ran a stop sign.
The driver slammed on his brakes to avoid hitting the car. A total of 28 students from Charter Oak Academy were on the bus. Eight students were transported to local hospitals with what EMTs described as minor injuries.
The remaining students were transferred to another bus to complete the route.
