BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- A summit aimed at shrinking prison populations in Illinois continued in Bloomington on Friday.

The Adult Redeploy Illinois Program offers financial incentives to counties and judicial circuits to develop programs to divert low-level offenders from prison.

More than 130 participants were in Bloomington for the conference, including officials from Peoria, Knox, Fulton and Mclean counties.

A typical Adult Redeploy Intervention costs $4,400. The annual cost of prison per inmate is over $20,000.
