SPEER, Ill. -- We're using good weather as an excuse for great food this week on You Gotta Eat.

We return to Tanners Orchard for what this food reviewer calls the best lunch combo around.

In the mid 1990s, Tanners Orchard started serving lunch with hot dogs, barbecue and chili soup.

Over the years, they have expanded the lunch menu and they continue to grow in food services.

"They have so many things you can choose, from soup to a simple little sandwich, you can get anything from here," said Tanners regular Olga Maloof.

For lunch Larry Foulk had the Meat Lover's Wrap. Larry said it "looked great, sounded great and tasted great."

With my soup, I had the Turkey Bacon Melt. The soup and sandwich is a perfect summer lunch with crisp, light taste and of course, a long time Tanners favorite, the apple cider.

Our meals came to $18.09 plus $7.97 for two slices of pie and coffee.

Visitors can tour the 80 acres of farmland growing dozens of crops at Tanners Orchard.

"They come on a festival day, spend the day with their kids picking apples, play on the Back 40 Fun Acres,” said co-owner Jennifer Beaver. “It's just a fun day for them."

Tanners Orchard is located at 740 State Route 40 in Speer, Ill.

They serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. They also serve on Saturdays in August and November.
