NORMAL, Ill. -- Normal residents will continue to have a second option for electricity.

Town officials announced Monday they will be entering a new contract period with Homefield Energy later this year.

All eligible Ameren and Homefield customers will receive a letter before May 1 giving them a chance to opt out of the new contract.

The new 24-month agreement with Homefield locks in a rate of 4.6 cents per kilowatt hour and mandates that Homefield supply 100 percent of power from renewable sources.

Ameren Illinois customers who are not part of the program are charged 4.8 cents per kilowatt hour.
