NORMAL Ill -- Would you take the pledge to drive safely if you had a chance to win a new car?
That is what students from Livingston, Dewitt, and McLean County schools did.
Last fall, 2,000 students from 18 schools signed a pledge saying they would always wear their seat belts, and never text and drive.
In exchange, they were entered into a drawing to win a new Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.
Contest organizers said now is the perfect time of year to remind students the importance of safe driving.
"This is the time of year when we have proms, graduations, and schools will be getting out," said Illinois State Trooper Dustin Pierce. "We really encourage students to be making good choices, and this is a good example of that."
The grand-prize winner of 2,000 entries was Madison Shaffer, a sophmore from Tri-Valley High School.
