EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The Heart of Illinois United Way ended their 2013 campaign Thursday night with a celebration and it was quite a memorable year for the organization.

The campaign raised more than $11 million, a new record.

The money is distributed to health and human service agencies across six counties of central Illinois.

"Over 25-percent of companies that contribute to United Way increased their contribution by more than 10-percent. In the economic times that we have, to have those kinds of results is gratifying," said Doug Stewart, Co-Chair, United Way Campaign 2013

More than 300 local companies participated in the campaign.
