PEORIA, Ill. -- Party officials say there are several reasons people choose not to vote in the primary election.
Some choose not to vote in the primary because you must pick a political party.
Others feel this election is not important and wait to vote in the general election in November.
Those that did make it to the polls today say there are many reasons to vote in every election.
"I think it's very important because a lot of people have died for us to express that right,” said voter Carolyn Little.
"There are candidates who are obviously voting against each other in the major election so if you don't vote in it you get what everyone else decides on,” said voter Susan Leighty.
Party representatives says over the years voting has become a lot more convenient.
"The accessibility has become a lot better, you can vote by mail, you can early vote there's so many different ways to do it,” said Billy Halstead from the Peoria County Democratic Party.
"It's a great opportunity to be part of narrowing down that field of candidates so we can put forth our best team for the election in November,” said Katherine Coyle from the Peoria County Republican Party.
