PEORIA, Ill.-- Friends and family of those affected by AIDS gathered on Sunday for the 2nd annual AIDS walk to remember.

The walk is in collaboration with the 30th anniversary of the International AIDS candlelight memorial.

Friends of People with AIDS, the Peoria City/County Health department and the Heart of Illinois HIV/AIDS Center hosted this year's memorial.

Stories were shared before the symbolic walk of those lost to the disease.

Executive Director of Friends of People with AIDS, Michael Maginn said, “It's really to recognize the individuals we've lost to this disease but also to honor the people that go through daily fighting the disease."

The group stressed the importance of educating the public and spreading awareness.
