EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- A popular local restaurant has temporarily shut its doors.

The Burger Barge in East Peoria is closed until further notice following an inspection by the Tazewell County Health Department on Monday. Before any citations were issued, the business’ owner chose to shut down.

The restaurant posted on their facebook page that, after surviving the 100 year flood, the recent heavy rain and groundwater had caused severe damage to the building.

However, it now seems that a water line may be the actual cause of the damage.

A spokesperson from the East Peoria Public Works Department confirmed that there is an issue with the water line serving the Burger Barge and work will begin Thursday to repair the problem.

The restaurant is expected to reopen when all repairs and clean-up are complete.
