TAZEWELL COUNTY, Ill -- The Tazewell County Health Department (TCHD) announced Friday the first West Nile virus positive mosquito batch of 2012.
TCHD Environmental Health stagg collected a mosquito sample and it was confirmed positive by the Illinois Department of Public Health on Thursday.
"As temperatures heat up and we head into summer, we will start to see more mosquitoes and birds test positive for West Nile virus," saild Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck.
The best way to prevent West Nile virus is to reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home and to take personal precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Precautions include practicing the three "R's" - reduce, repel and report.
