WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. -- According to a recent study, Woodford County has the best health outcomes of all counties in the state of Illinois.
The study was conducted by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and measured such factors as obesity rates, number of smokers and other behaviors that influence personal health.
The next closest area county on the list was Tazewell County, which ranked 27th.
The administrator of the Woodford County Health Department thinks there are several reasons for the high ranking.
"Access to care. We have a local hospital, we have seven strong nursing homes, long term care facilities," explained Laurie Schierer. "I believe at Rotary the other day one of our long term care administrators said that three people that are over a hundred years."
This is the third year in a row that Woodford County has ranked in the top-5 in the study.
The study ranks all 89 Illinois counties for health outcomes, with McLean County coming in 31st and Peoria County 51st.
